75+ Wedding Venues in San Diego
September 15, 2026
"Beach wedding" in San Diego isn't one decision; it's two. A resort ceremony on a manicured lawn, where the venue handles catering and rain backup, or a public beach wedding, where you're working with a city permit, your own vendors, and the tide chart. Most couples don't realize they're choosing between these paths until they're mid-tour.
We've planned both. Toes-in-the-sand ceremonies at Cuvier Park with a four-hour permit clock running, and full resort receptions at Paradise Point where the only real decision was which lawn caught the better sunset.
This guide covers both honestly; real costs, permit requirements, and the wind, tide, and sand problems no directory mentions, because no directory has actually chased a runaway veil across the beach at 4 p.m.
One thing worth flagging before you dive in: permit fees, resort pricing, and even beach access rules shift year to year. Treat the numbers below as a strong starting point for your own conversations, not a locked quote.
Quick Answer
Best Beach Wedding Venues in San Diego at a Glance
Short on time? Here's the fast version.
San Diego's best beach wedding venues are split into two categories. For a full-service resort experience, Paradise Point, Catamaran Resort, and L'Auberge Del Mar lead the pack, with site fees typically running $7,000–$22,000 before catering; the lower end for bay-facing lawns like Bali Hai, the top end for landmark properties like Hotel del Coronado.
For an authentic public beach ceremony, Cuvier Park (the "Wedding Bowl") in La Jolla and Coronado's Centennial Park are the most requested spots, with city permit fees running a fraction of resort pricing usually a few hundred dollars; though guest counts are capped and ceremonies are limited to a set time window.
If you’re still comparing your options, start with our guide to San Diego wedding venues for a broader look at wedding venues across the city, including beach, resort, downtown, and other venue styles.
Planner's Tip: If sand-in-your-shoes photos matter more to you than a ballroom backup plan, a public beach ceremony paired with a nearby restaurant or private reception venue often costs less overall than a full resort buyout — but it takes more coordination on your end, or ours.
Resort & Private Venue Comparison

Prices reflect estimated site fees only, based on typical 2026 San Diego resort tiers; excludes catering minimums, service charges, and peak-season premiums. Confirm exact current pricing directly with each venue.
Three things To Know:
- Most Mission Bay resorts (Paradise Point, Catamaran) require your ceremony site fee and a separate food-and-beverage minimum through in-house catering; the two numbers together are your real budget, not just the site fee above.
- Bluff and cliffside venues like L'Auberge and Scripps Forum book out fastest for sunset time slots; if golden hour matters to your photos, inquire earlier than you think you need to.
- Hotel del Coronado's beach access is technically public property managed under a resort agreement, which means your ceremony timing has to work around tide charts, not just your own schedule.
Public Beach Ceremony Comparison
If a resort buyout isn't the vibe; or the budget; these are San Diego's most requested public beach ceremony spots, all of which require a City of San Diego or City of Coronado permit.

Permit costs are estimated based on typical San Diego Parks & Recreation and Coronado permitting fees as of 2026; always confirm current pricing and availability directly through the relevant city permit office before finalizing your date.
The permit process, in short:
- Applications go through the City of San Diego Parks & Recreation (or City of Coronado for Coronado sites); not the beach itself, and not a private booking system.
- Most public sites limit ceremonies to one wedding per day per location and a two-to-four-hour window, so your setup, ceremony, and breakdown all need to fit inside that clock.
- A permit does not guarantee your exact preferred date; popular spots like Cuvier Park book out weekends well in advance, especially in summer.
If you're choosing between permits, vendors, venue contracts, and weather contingencies, full-service wedding planning can help coordinate the entire process.
Not Sure Which Path Fits Your Wedding; Resort or Public Beach?
Every option above comes with a tradeoff that only shows up once you're deep in permit paperwork or catering contracts; not during a quick Google search. Tell us your guest count, your budget, and what "beach wedding" actually means to you, and we'll tell you honestly which path; and which specific spot; fits your day.
7 Resort Wedding Venues in San Diego
Let’s explore the best resort wedding venues one by one.
1. Paradise Point: Palm-Lined Lagoon Views at San Diego Beach Resort
Forty-four acres on Mission Bay, palm trees leaning over the ceremony lawn, and a lagoon view that does most of the decorating for you. Paradise Point is the venue we point to when a couple wants "tropical resort" without needing a passport.

What's actually included vs. what costs extra:
- The site fee covers the ceremony and reception space rental; it does not include catering, which runs through a separate food-and-beverage minimum.
- Chairs, a basic arch, and standard tables are typically included; upgraded rentals (specialty linens, lounge furniture) are add-ons.
- Ask specifically about their bay-view sunset timing; the lagoon-facing ceremony spots lose direct light earlier than the open-bay side.
2. Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa: Mission Bay's Classic Beachfront Wedding Venue
Ask five different couples why they picked Catamaran and you'll get five different answers; the Polynesian-themed ballroom, the actual sand ceremony site, the koi ponds, or just that it's one of the few Mission Bay resorts where the beach ceremony and the reception space are a two-minute walk apart.
Quick specs:
- Capacity: Up to 350 guests (site-dependent; North Lawn holds up to 350, South Lawn caps at 120 for a more intimate feel)
- Setting: Beach sand or lawn, indoor ballroom backup available
- Standout: All-inclusive pricing structure that bundles more than most Mission Bay competitors
Tip: If you want an actual sand ceremony rather than a lawn, confirm which specific site you're booking; Catamaran has both, and "beach wedding" in their packages sometimes defaults to the lawn unless you ask.
Site fee vs. catering: Catamaran leans toward bundled, all-inclusive pricing more than Paradise Point does; worth comparing both quotes side by side before assuming one is cheaper, since the "starting at" number can be misleading until catering is factored in.
3. L'Auberge Del Mar: Del Mar's Cliffside Beach Wedding Destination
North County's answer to a cliffside European wedding. Seagrove Park sits just steps from the resort with sweeping Pacific views, and the Sunset Terrace does exactly what its name promises; if your ceremony time is set correctly.
The timing detail that matters most here: L'Auberge's terrace venues face west, directly into the sunset, which is stunning for photos but genuinely difficult for guests facing forward during the ceremony itself.
Fix it with:
- A ceremony time 30–45 minutes before actual sunset, not at sunset
- Seating angled slightly off-center from a direct west-facing line
- A photographer briefed in advance on the light shift, since it changes fast on a bluff

4. Hotel del Coronado: San Diego's Most Iconic Beachfront Wedding Venue
There's a reason this venue doesn't need much introduction; it's one of the most photographed wedding backdrops in the country, and the private beach access alone justifies why it sits at the top of most couples' wish lists before budget enters the conversation.
What you're actually paying for:
- Access to a genuinely private section of Coronado Beach, not a shared public stretch
- A full-service resort structure; catering, rentals, and day-of coordination folded into one contract
- Landmark-status photography value that's difficult to replicate anywhere else in San Diego
Capacity: Up to 400 guests · Setting: Private beach and lawn spaces
Planner's logistics note: Because the beach here operates on a tide schedule even for a "private" ceremony area, confirm your exact ceremony time against the tide chart for your date; low tide gives you significantly more usable sand than high tide, and the difference is visible in photos.
5. Bali Hai: Shelter Island's Tropical Bayfront Wedding Setting
Shelter Island's tropical outlier; palm trees, tiki-adjacent architecture, and a bayfront view that puts the downtown San Diego skyline directly behind your ceremony instead of open ocean. It's the venue for couples who want "beach vibe" without a strict beach ceremony.
Quick specs:
- Capacity: Up to 250 guests
- Setting: Bayfront lawn, tropical pavilion
- Best for: Skyline-and-bay views with a relaxed, resort-casual feel
Why it's priced lower than the La Jolla and Del Mar options: Bali Hai sits on the bay rather than the open Pacific, which means calmer water, less wind interference for ceremonies, and typically a lower site fee than oceanfront comparable; a real budget lever if the "beach" part of your wedding matters more conceptually than literally.
💡 Planner Advice: Ask about their sunset timing against the downtown skyline; Bali Hai's bay-facing ceremony spots catch a genuinely different kind of golden hour than ocean-facing venues, worth seeing in person before you commit either way.
6. Scripps Seaside Forum: La Jolla's Modern Oceanfront Wedding Venue
Contemporary, clean-lined, and built for a couple who wants "oceanfront" without leaning into a tropical or historic theme. The ceremony terrace overlooks open water, and the reception space flows indoor-to-outdoor without feeling like two separate events stitched together.
Fast facts:
|
Capacity |
Up to 200 guests |
|
Estimated site fee |
$8,000–$15,000 |

Three reasons couples choose Scripps over other La Jolla venues:
- Modern architecture reads sophisticated rather than beachy-casual, if that's the aesthetic you want
- Easy beach access below the terrace for sunset photos without relocating your whole group
- Proximity to Scripps Pier gives photographers a genuinely distinctive backdrop most other venues can't offer
7. La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club: Classic Beachfront Ceremony Venue
Classic, understated coastal elegance; this is the venue for couples who want a beachfront ceremony without a resort's high-rise backdrop or a public beach's logistics headaches.
What makes it distinct: Unlike some of the taller resort properties on this list, La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club keeps a low, beach-level profile, which means your ceremony backdrop is genuinely just sand, water, and sky; no buildings competing with the view.
Booking checklist:
- Confirm sunset timing directly with their events team; La Jolla's coastline curves in a way that shifts golden-hour light earlier than you'd expect from a straight-line sunset calculation.
- Ask about their sea breeze contingency for hair, veils, and any lightweight decor.
- Site fee and catering are typically quoted separately; request a combined estimate for your actual guest count before comparing it to bundled venues like Catamaran.
Capacity: Up to 300 guests · Setting: Beachfront lawn
Still Deciding Between These Seven?
Every resort on this list handles pricing, tide timing, and what's actually included differently enough that comparing "starting prices" alone can be misleading. Tell us your guest count and your must-haves, and we'll tell you which of these fits; and which questions to ask before you sign anything.
5 Best Public Beach Ceremony Spots
1: Cuvier Park (The Wedding Bowl): La Jolla's Most Photographed Beach Wedding Spot
Ask any San Diego wedding photographer for their favorite ceremony backdrop, and this cliffside grass bowl in La Jolla comes up almost every time. It's not technically a beach; you're standing on a bluff, not sand; but the ocean sits close enough that it doesn't matter.

Why the guest cap matters more here than anywhere else on this list: Cuvier Park is genuinely small, and the summer restriction to 50 guests catches people off guard when they're planning around a 100-person list. If your count is tight to the limit, confirm the season-specific cap before you fall in love with the photos.
If your guest list is smaller and you're open to options beyond the beach, see our guide to small wedding venues in San Diego.
The sand-logistics problem, translated for a bluff: there's no actual sand here, but there is a slope; chairs need to be leveled carefully on the grass, and guests in heels should be warned about the incline before the processional, not during it.
Planner's Opinion: Because this spot is genuinely the most requested in the city, weekend permit slots; especially summer sunset times; get claimed months out. If this is your top choice, apply for your permit the moment your date is set.
2. Mission Beach: Classic Barefoot Beach Wedding Ceremony Setting
The one that looks like the postcard; wide, flat, genuinely soft sand, and the kind of long unobstructed shoreline that makes a barefoot processional actually work instead of just photographing well.
Three things to plan around:
- Foot traffic. Mission Beach stays busy with walkers, joggers, and beachgoers even outside peak season; your permit reserves your ceremony area, but it doesn't clear the surrounding beach of everyone else on it.
- Sand consistency. Softer and deeper than some other San Diego beaches, which means standard folding chairs sink more here than at, say, Coronado. Budget for wider-base chairs or a small platform if guest comfort matters.
- Parking. Beach lots fill early on weekends, especially in summer; build a 30-minute parking buffer into your guest instructions.
Guest limit: Up to 80 · Permit issued by: City of San Diego · Estimated cost: $150–$350
3. Coronado Beach: Skyline or Sand Beach Ceremony Choice
Coronado actually gives you two different wedding experiences depending on which side you choose. The bay side; Centennial Park and Tidelands; puts the downtown San Diego skyline directly in your ceremony photos. The ocean side puts you on genuinely wide, quiet sand with the Hotel del Coronado's red roofline visible in the distance.

Guest limit: Varies by specific site; confirm with the permit office directly · Estimated permit cost: $150–$400
Planner's logistics note: If you're set on ocean-side sand, check the wave and wind forecast a few days out; Coronado's open coastline catches more wind than the calmer bay side, which affects everything from hair to whether your officiant's microphone actually carries.
4. Sunset Cliffs: Dramatic Cliffside Ceremony Above the Pacific
This is the dramatic option; sandstone cliffs, crashing waves below, and genuinely some of the best golden-hour light in the city. It's also the one location on this list where safety planning matters as much as aesthetics.
Before you book this spot, walk through this checklist:
- Confirm the exact ceremony location with the permit office; cliff-edge areas have specific approved zones, and not every scenic viewpoint is available for events.
- Brief your guests, especially anyone less mobile, on uneven terrain and drop-offs near the ceremony area.
- Have a wind contingency for anything lightweight; arches, signage, and veils catch more wind here than at beach-level locations.
- Check tide and surf conditions for your date; wave activity below the cliffs affects both sound and safety buffer zones.
Guest limit: Up to 50 · Time limit: 4 hours max · Estimated permit cost: $200–$400
💡 Planner Insight: Sunset Cliffs earns its name; but that also means your ceremony start time needs to be set with actual sunset data for your date, not a general "late afternoon" guess. A 20-minute miscalculation here is the difference between perfect light and shooting into a silhouette.
5. La Jolla Cove Area: Secluded Tide Pool Beach Wedding Ceremony
Quieter and more secluded than Cuvier Park just up the road, the Cove area trades the bowl's dramatic grass slope for tide pools, rock formations, and a more intimate, tucked-away feel; genuinely one of the least crowded permit-able spots on this list.
Fast facts:
- Guest limit: Varies by exact site within the Cove area
- Estimated permit cost: $200–$400
- Best for: Smaller ceremonies prioritizing seclusion over dramatic scale
What makes this different from Cuvier Park, even though they're minutes apart: the Cove's rocky coastline means less usable flat ground for guest seating, which naturally caps most ceremonies smaller than Cuvier Park's already-tight limits. It's the right call when "intimate" is the actual goal, not a compromise you're settling for.
Logistics to plan around:
- Tide pools attract visitors and sea lions; expect some ambient beach activity nearby during your ceremony window
- Rocky terrain means guest seating needs careful placement; walk the exact site with your planner before finalizing your layout
- Parking in the Cove area is limited and shared with sightseers; a rideshare or shuttle plan works better than asking guests to find street parking

Public beach ceremonies come with more moving pieces than a resort booking; permits, tide charts, wind contingencies, and a hard four-hour clock. Tell us your date and your top pick from this list, and we'll walk you through exactly what needs to happen between now and your ceremony.
A Planner's Guide to Sand & Coastal Wedding Logistics
This is the section directories can't write, because it doesn't come from a listing; it comes from actually standing on the sand at 4 p.m. watching a wedding go sideways in ways nobody warned the couple about.
For couples handling most planning themselves, a day-of wedding coordinator can take over vendor arrivals, setup, timeline management, and breakdown so the permit window stays under control.
Chairs & Seating: What Actually Works on Sand
Standard folding chairs sink. Not always dramatically, but enough that a perfectly straight aisle at 3 p.m. looks tilted by 4:30 once legs have settled unevenly into soft sand.
Better options, ranked by what we actually recommend:
- Wide-base or "sand leg" chairs; purpose-built for beach events, minimal sinking, worth the rental upcharge for guest counts over 40
- A thin plywood or decking platform under the seating area; invisible once chairs are placed, solves the sinking problem completely, best for guest counts where budget allows
- Standard chairs with sand-leg attachments; a middle-ground fix if a full platform isn't in the budget
💡 Planner Opinion: Test your chair setup on the actual beach, not a similar-looking one, at least once before the day. Sand density varies enough between San Diego beaches that what worked at Mission Beach won't necessarily hold at Coronado.
Wind: The Variable Everyone Underestimates
Coastal wind isn't a maybe; budget for it every single time, even on a calm-looking forecast day.
What gets hit hardest:
- Florals and bouquets; anything loosely arranged or delicate loses petals fast; ask your florist for wind-resistant arrangement techniques specifically for beach ceremonies
- Veils; genuinely lovely in photos, genuinely difficult in person; a blusher veil or a shorter cathedral length handles wind better than a long, loose veil
- Hair; soft waves hold up better than sleek straight styles; talk to your stylist about beach-specific products before the day, not the morning of
- Signage and paper goods; anything not weighted or secured will end up airborne; skip loose paper programs in favor of secured signage or none at all
Because wind can affect everything from ceremony arches and florals to signage and seating, thoughtful wedding design and styling is especially important for a San Diego beach ceremony.
Tide Timing: Why It Changes Your Whole Schedule
Tide isn't just a photography consideration; at several San Diego locations, it directly affects how much usable sand you actually have for your ceremony.
|
Tide Condition |
What It Means for Your Ceremony |
|
Low tide |
Maximum usable sand, wider beach, easier guest access |
|
High tide |
Reduced sand area, water potentially closer to seating, softer wet sand near the shoreline |
|
Incoming tide |
Start on time or earlier; usable space shrinks as your ceremony runs |
Where this matters most: Hotel del Coronado and Mission Beach both see meaningful tide-driven changes in usable beach space. Pull the tide chart for your actual date as soon as it's set, and build your ceremony time around low tide whenever the rest of your schedule allows it.
Beach lighting, sunset timing, and venue access can all affect photography coverage, so it's worth understanding wedding photographer costs in San Diego before finalizing your timeline.
Sound: Vows Get Lost Faster Than You'd Think
Open water and wind combine to swallow sound in a way indoor venues never do. Guests in the back rows genuinely miss vows at outdoor beach ceremonies more often than couples expect.
Fixes worth the investment:
- A wireless lavalier mic on the officiant, minimum; even for a 30-person ceremony
- A second mic or handheld for vow exchanges if both partners are speaking
- Positioning the ceremony with wind at guests' backs when possible, not blowing toward them
Guest Mobility & Accessibility
Sand and cliffside terrain aren't accessible by default, and it's worth planning for before a guest finds out the hard way.
- For sand ceremonies: a rollout mat or runner from the parking/arrival point to the seating area makes a real difference for older guests, anyone using a cane or wheelchair, and honestly anyone in heels
- For cliffside locations (Sunset Cliffs, Cuvier Park): confirm the terrain and incline with guests who may need it in advance, and consider reserved front-row seating near the flattest access point
How Much Does a Beach Wedding Cost in San Diego?
A San Diego beach wedding costs anywhere from $3,000 to over $22,000, and the number depends almost entirely on which of three paths you take: a full resort buyout, a public beach permit paired with your own vendors, or an all-inclusive micro-wedding package. These aren't just different price points, they're three fundamentally different planning experiences.
The three cost categories, broken down:
-
Resort venues
Site fees alone run $7,000–$22,000, and that's before catering minimums are added which, depending on the venue, can add another $10,000–$25,000+ for a full guest list. This path includes rentals, weather backup, and typically day-of coordination in the package. -
Public beach + independent vendors
City permits run roughly $150–$400 depending on location and guest count, but this is only the starting number. You're responsible for booking your own officiant, chairs, sound, photography, and a separate reception location if you want one, total costs vary widely based on how much you DIY versus hire out.
If you're comparing beach venues with resorts, estates, hotels, and other venue types, our guide to wedding venue costs in San Diego provides a broader pricing comparison.
-
All-inclusive micro-wedding or elopement packages
Local specialty companies offer full-service beach ceremony packages; officiant, permit handling, photography, chairs, and florals; starting around $3,000–$4,000 for smaller guest counts (typically under 40). This is the fastest and often most budget-predictable path if a large guest list isn't the priority.
💡 Planner Views: The biggest cost mistake we see isn't overspending on a venue; it's choosing the public beach path without fully pricing out the independent vendors it requires. A $300 permit can turn into a $12,000 wedding once photography, catering, and a reception space are added separately. Price the whole day before you commit to a path based on the smallest number in it.
